Bride's Wedding Toast - Sample One:
A long time ago in our not so distant past, when my mother was sitting at the head table of her own wedding reception, brides did not give toasts. When I asked my mom if she wishes she’d been encouraged to speak, she said she really didn’t mind, that she had probably been too shy anyway. Well, usually I am reluctant to speak in public, too, but not today. Perhaps it’s like the philosopher Lao Tzu wrote, “To love someone deeply gives you strength. Being loved by someone deeply gives you courage.” My
wedding day gives me courage.
So here’s my toast, to all of you for sitting out there smiling at me, defining fondness. If I am ever not sure of how much I have been loved, if I ever doubt love’s presence again, I will fall back upon my memories of this special day, for today I am certainly the most beloved person in the universe. Today, of course, the love I share with (husband’s name) is the most prominent celebration, but there are so many varieties of love in this room right now that if each were a drop of water, we would be drenched in their deluge.
Mom and Dad, you have always loved me, no less when I was a steadily exasperating adolescent than today, though pride may be more evident today. Thank you for teaching me, by your examples, enough about love that I will be a good wife. Thank you for all you did to make this day happen, your work, your advice, your credit rating. And to my new parents, thank you, too. In becoming my second set of parents, you double my daughterly happiness: in your having taught a little boy how to grow into the man who treats me not only like royalty but as his equal, you have made my happiness expand exponentially.
And to all my incredible, amazing friends and aunts and uncles and cousins and siblings and my dear and wonderful grandmother who I am so happy could be here today, thank you too. I want to toast all of you, for it is your friendship that allowed me to reach this day as I have, full of faith and strength and joy and sure of love all around me. Here’s to you.
